A lake covered in snow and a minivan full of Dutch that want nothing else than to get out on the famous Swedish ice – a situation that calls for the right kind of mind! The solution? Call the south! The hot tip of the day turned out to be Tiveden"s national Park, wich sounded wild and exotic even in our ears. We went to Laxå, but got really disappointed when we stepped out of the car just to find a lake covered in a thick layer of snow. We didn"t give up, but went to Viken, an old aquaintence for those who have skated on Göta Canal. Viken turned out to be a hit, fully skateble! After everybody had gotten equipped with life saving gear and skates, off we went with the wind in our faces. The ice turned out to be a little risky, not that thick at all actually …The leader had to be really attentive, and managed to get everybody dry-clothed to the resting spot. Another hard wind period of skating after lunch, until we set course north towards the cars, with the wind in our backs this time. This turned out to be even trickier. It is hard to go fast and still keep track of the weak spots on the ice. As a result of this we had the honour of witnessing a little swim crossing a “råk”. This swim was performed by a former Finnish winter swimming champion… Skating with ispik was a new and exiting experience for our fellow Dutch men, and it made them realize this made it hard to skate as fast and elegantly as one can on a canal. They informed us it is againt the law to get on the ice and skate without a permission from the police in Holland. | |||||||||||||
